TOTO (pronounced toot-toh) is a Japanese based company that is one of the largest manufacturers of bathroom accessories. It is known worldwide for developing many derivative products and the Washlet. The company was founded in 1917, in a small town called Kitakyushu in Japan. It gradually developed into a world leader in toilet accessories, particularly in the area of bathroom accessories, including Washlets. The company has several factories all over the world, located in Japan, England, the United States, China and Pakistan. Some of these factories are Toto’s own showrooms, while others are affiliates of other manufacturers.
One division of TOTO is the Japansese toilet manufacturer, which it shares a joint venture with, in the manufacture of washlets. TOTO also has joint ventures with companies from China and Taiwan. Among the famous ones are Sun-Mar Corporation, Haier, Schluter and Kohler. All these have been able to revolutionize the toilet industry, with their innovative designs and features.
In the mid 90s, TOTO began to market its line of Japanese style bathroom and bedroom utensils, particularly its range of japansese style bowls. Its first hit product was the Toilet with Sink, which came in either blue or red colors. Since then, TOTO has released a wide variety of toilet accessories, all based on the Japanese toilet style.
TOTO also manufactures paper towel holders for hand towels. Its bathroom and bedroom accessories came in flush toilets. There is a special model called Toto Proffitt, which allows the user to select from a variety of choices. It includes a toilet paper holder and a flush tap, which enable the owner to flush both by hand or with the pull cord included.
As for the bathroom, TOTO has designed and produced a stylish and functional two-piece bathroom vanity unit. The styling is contemporary, with an attractive chrome or bronze finish. The two-piece unit consists of a mirror on the top half and a separate basin on the bottom. The basin is made of sanagloss finish, which offers a glossy look. It can be attached to the cabinet easily using the metal clips.
There are various models to choose from. A model with a two-piece bowl is called TOTO Marbled. It comes with chrome plated hardware and a silver tray. A model with a one-piece basin and standard height flushing can be purchased. This flushes only at the top half of the bowl, hence the name sanagloss finish. The TOTO Marbled is available in different colours, as is the TOTO Golden Glow.
